Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 whole honeycrisp apples
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/8 tsp each: kosher salt and ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup bourbon
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 2 boxes mini phyllo shells
  • optional garnish: whipped cream
  • optional garnish: salted caramel sauce

Steps

  1. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Cook the apples, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and brown sugar for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring until tender.
  3. Add the bourbon and lemon juice, and cook for 3 minutes to reduce the liquid.
  4. Stir the cornstarch with the water, add it to the skillet, and cook for 2 minutes until thick.
  5. Heat the oven to 350 F and arrange the phyllo shells on a baking sheet.
  6. Fill the shells with the apple mixture and bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
