Ingredients
- 1 refrigerated flat pie crust
- 1 large egg
- 2 tsp tap water
- 1 tbsp olive or any neutral flavored oil
- 3/4 cup medium yellow onion
- 4 cloves fresh garlic
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 can (4 oz) diced green chiles
- 1 packet taco seasoning
- 1/4 cup water
- 3/4 cup refried beans
- 1 cup crushed tortilla chips
- 1 1/2 cups freshly shredded jack cheese
- shredded lettuce
Steps
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat and cook the onion and garlic for 3 minutes.
- Add the ground beef and cook for 8 minutes, until it reaches 160°F.
- Stir in the green chiles, taco seasoning, and 1/4 cup water, then simmer for 3 minutes.
- Press the pie crust into a 9-inch pie plate and brush the edge with the beaten egg mixed with 2 teaspoons water.
- Layer the refried beans, beef, salsa, crushed chips, and cheese inside the crust.
- Bake at 375°F for 30 minutes, until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted, then top with lettuce.
