Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1 large egg
- 1 quart vegetable oil (optional)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 recipe mexican chocolate sauce
Steps
- Heat the water, butter, 1 tablespoon sugar, vanilla, and salt in a 2-quart saucepan until boiling.
- Stir in the flour over low heat for 2 minutes, then cool the dough for 5 minutes.
- Beat in the egg until the dough is smooth, then transfer it to a piping bag.
- Heat 1 quart oil in a deep pan to 350 F and mix the remaining sugar with cinnamon.
- Pipe 4-inch strips into the oil and fry for 3 to 4 minutes, turning once, until golden and cooked through.
- Drain the churros, toss them with cinnamon sugar, and warm the prepared chocolate sauce for 2 minutes before serving.
