Ingredients

1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 lb unsalted butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp fine sea salt
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps

Toast the almonds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 8 minutes, stirring often.
Grease a 9-by-13-inch pan with cooking oil and spread the toasted almonds across it.
Cook the butter, sugar, salt, and water in a heavy saucepan over medium heat for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring until the mixture reaches 300 F.
Remove the pan from heat, stir in the vanilla, and pour the hot toffee over the almonds.
Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot toffee, wait 5 minutes, then spread the melted chocolate evenly.
Cool the toffee for 90 minutes, then chill it for 30 minutes before breaking it into pieces.
