Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 375 g dates
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2/3 cup water

Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan with cooking oil.
  2. Simmer the dates, sugar, and water in a saucepan for 5 minutes, stirring until thick.
  3. Melt the butter and stir it with the brown sugar, oats, flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Press half the oat mixture into the pan and spread the date filling over it.
  5. Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the dates and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
  6. Cool the bars completely before cutting them into squares.
