Ingredients

  • 1 cloth pastry bag or heavy-duty plastic pastry bag
  • 1 large open star pastry tip
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiled water
  • 3 cups + vegetable oil for frying (optional)
  • 4 oz dark baking chocolate
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Steps

  1. Mix the flour, one tablespoon sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Stir the oil, vanilla, and boiling water into the flour mixture until a thick dough forms.
  3. Heat 3 cups of oil in a deep pot to 350 F.
  4. Pipe 15 strips of dough into the hot oil and fry for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden.
  5. Mix the remaining sugar with cinnamon and roll the warm churros in it.
  6. Warm the chocolate and cream in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
