Typical price: Salefork's estimate of an everyday US shelf price for each ingredient. Pick your city to price it from this week's ad.

The amounts listed are small for a full dinner, so this price per serving is likely low. Plan on a side or a bigger portion.

Ingredients

  • 1 large chicken breast
  • 2 cups white rice
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 small onion
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 1/2 cups water or low sodium chicken broth
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

Steps

  1. Melt the butter in a 5-quart pot over medium heat, then cook the diced onion and carrot for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the diced chicken, salt, black pepper, and cayenne, and cook for 6 minutes until the chicken reaches 165 F.
  3. Stir in the ketchup and rice, coating the grains with the butter and pan juices.
  4. Pour in the water or broth, bring it to a boil, and stir once.
  5. Cover the pot, reduce the heat to low, and cook for 20 minutes until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed.
