Ingredients

  • 1 cup peeled and chopped apple
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/8 tsp kosher salt
  • 2 1/2 quarts peanut or canola oil
  • powdered sugar

Steps

  1. Stir the apples, sugar, eggs, salt, and enough flour to make a thick batter.
  2. Heat the oil to 350 F in a deep, heavy pot.
  3. Drop rounded spoonfuls of batter into the oil without crowding the pot.
  4. Fry the fritters for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  5. Drain the fritters on paper towels, dust them with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
