Ingredients

3 lb spareribs
3 tbsp vegetable oil
2 large onions
salt & freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup water
2 lb sauerkraut
1/2 tsp caraway seed
1 apple

Steps

Heat the oven to 325 F and season the ribs with salt and pepper.
Heat the oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat and brown the ribs for 8 minutes.
Cook the sliced onions in the pot for 3 minutes.
Add the sauerkraut, water, caraway seeds, and sliced apple around the ribs.
Cover the Dutch oven and bake for 75 minutes.
Uncover and bake for 15 minutes, until the ribs reach at least 145 F and are tender.
