1 bottle red wine
1 lemon
1 vanilla bean
1 1/2 cups sugar
8 large bosc pears
1/2 gallon white chocolate raspberry ice cream or 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream
2 tbsp somebody's mother's chocolate syrup

Steps

Peel the pears, leave their stems attached, and trim a small slice from each bottom so they stand upright.
Combine red wine, sugar, lemon slices, and the split vanilla bean in a large pot and bring to a boil.
Add the pears, lower the heat, cover the pot, and simmer for 35 minutes, turning the pears occasionally.
Remove the lid and simmer for 15 minutes, until the pears are tender when pierced.
Serve the warm pears with ice cream and chocolate syrup.
