Ingredients

  • 3/4 lb green beans
  • oil (optional)
  • kosher salt (optional)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Steps

  1. Trim the green beans and pat them dry.
  2. Whisk the flour, milk, egg, baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl.
  3. Heat 1 inch of oil in a large skillet to 350 F.
  4. Dip the green beans in the batter, letting the excess drip back into the bowl.
  5. Fry the beans in small batches for 2 to 3 minutes, turning once, until crisp and cooked through.
  6. Drain the fries on a paper towel and season them with salt.
