Ingredients
- 1 lb green tomatoes
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 3/4 cup canola oil (optional)
Steps
- Slice the tomatoes into half-inch rounds and season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Mix flour and garlic powder in one shallow bowl, and mix cornmeal and paprika in another.
- Dip each tomato slice in buttermilk, then coat it with the flour mixture.
- Dip the coated slices in buttermilk again, then press them into the cornmeal mixture.
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat to about 350 F.
- Fry the tomatoes for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until golden and tender.
