Ingredients

  • 3 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp fine sea salt
  • 2 sticks unsalted butter
  • 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 8 oz semi-sweet ghirardelli chocolate baking bars (optional)
  • optional: flaked sea salt for sprinkling

Steps

  1. Whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Beat the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy, then mix in the vanilla and eggs.
  3. Stir the dry mixture into the butter mixture, then fold in the chopped chocolate.
  4. Chill the dough for 30 minutes while heating the oven to 350 F.
  5. Scoop 24 portions onto baking sheets and bake in batches for 10 to 12 minutes, until the edges are set.
  6. Cool the cookies on the sheets for 5 minutes before moving them.
