Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups white granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 4 oz butter
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract

Steps

  1. Heat the oven to 350 F and grease a 9-by-13-inch baking pan with cooking oil.
  2. Whisk the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar in a large bowl.
  3. Whisk in the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, then stir in the boiling water until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Cool the cake completely for 20 minutes before frosting it.
  6. Beat the butter, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth, then spread the frosting over the cake.
