Ingredients
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- 1 1/2 lb yellow onions
- fine sea salt
- 1 tsp light brown sugar (optional)
Steps
- Peel and thinly slice the onions, separating the slices.
- Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat for 2 minutes.
- Add the onions and salt, then cook for 10 minutes, stirring often.
- Lower the heat and cook the onions for 20 minutes, stirring every few minutes.
- Stir in the brown sugar if using and cook for 15 more minutes until deeply browned and soft.
