Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • scant 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • vegetable oil (optional)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 5 oz semisweet chocolate
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch salt

Steps

  1. Boil water, butter, sugar, and salt in a medium saucepan, stir in flour, and cook the dough for 7 minutes.
  2. Cool the dough for 5 minutes.
  3. Beat in eggs and vanilla for 5 minutes, adding one egg at a time.
  4. Heat vegetable oil to 350 F in a deep skillet over 5 minutes.
  5. Pipe the dough into the hot oil and fry the churros for 13 minutes, until firm and golden.
  6. Roll the churros in sugar and cinnamon for 2 minutes.
  7. Warm heavy cream, chocolate, cinnamon, and salt in a small saucepan for 8 minutes, stirring until smooth.
